Clothing, shoes and accessories that strut down the runway are often theatrical. While we understand that fashion sometimes calls for designs that are impractical and extravagant, it’s hard to believe some of these shoes made it to the shelves. Showcasing more novelty than function, more glitz than sophistication, we present 10 Insanely Ridiculous High Heel Shoes.

The Devil Wears Galliano? These shoes, featuring what must be a 6 inch heel, are more frightening than Anna Wintour waiting for her next Starbucks fix. Perfect for when the transsexual look takes over, it’s safe to say this is one pair that won’t make it to market.

These days we can all learn how to make the most of what’s already in our closets. It appears that this Etsy designer had the same idea. Accidentally splashed a little paint on your shoes? Not a problem, splatter on some more and add a pink bandana to one of them. Jackson Pollack meets thug life for less!

We get the fiery orange hue, the of-the-moment cutouts and the luxe crocodile stamped leather. It’s the Sonic the Hedgehog sole that ruins it for us. That, along with the combination of these features, looks like your feet were involved in a volcanic eruption.

Fashion’s recent 80′s invasion leaves us wondering how long it will be before disco glamour is revived. If and when it does, these shoes are ready to boogie. Add a little Studio 54 (and 5.5 inches) to your step with the Disco Ball Sandals from Maison Martin Margiela.

We only recently began to get over the Manolo/Timberland collaboration from several years back. The Lara Combat boot from Alexander Wang-too soon; too similar. Velvet, elastic, rubber and the same lacing used on construction boots for $590? We may need to lie down.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens to the shoes you’ve donated, here’s your answer. Someone jazzes them up until they’re Moulin Rouge-ready and sells them on Etsy. And you thought you were doing something good, didn’t you?

Someone from the House of Balenciaga must have attended an Aerosmith concert just before designing these shoes. Using a scarf borrowed from his mic, this super high heel and what looks like cane chair material, is finished in suede.

The wicked witch may be dead, but she left behind her dancing shoes. The Swarovski-embellished sandals from Giuseppe Zanotti, featuring insanely jagged edges and cutouts, takes the idea of looking fierce to a whole other level.

Influenced by architecture and the future is a welcomed change to rock and roll and 80′s inspired fashions…except in the case of these shoes. Despite their whacky shaped heels, Raphael Young’s Autumn/Winter ’09 collection claims to be gentle on the feet. What he failed to do was make them gentle on the eyes too.

Looks like Mary Jane gave up her stint as a sweet schoolgirl and became a clown stripper. Glossy red patent leather can make for a fabulous shoe, but paired with the most serious platform ever and extra large buckles, they’re anything but.

We understand that fashion is art and art can be fashion and all that jazz, but unlike art, shoes are made for walking. The ‘Ayers’ Art Deco Slingbacks featuring wood, mirror-like metallics and leather don’t appear to be. Wearable or not, they definitely qualify as ‘mixed media footwear.’

Not a single pair with cleats for wading slippery trout streams? Tsk, tsk.

Fashion is about expressing one’s comfort with themselves, individuality and independence. If you have the money to buy the products and can pull it off… go for it.
Why be a cookie cutter barcode for the fashion industry whom whats to tell the rest of the world what to wear.
It’s funny that those in the industry never offer critisism of each other, even in a positive way.
In any other industry you see it. What makes these people any better then anyone else. It’s time to get over yourselves.
